Art Awareness Student Goals and Evaluation

As discussed elsewhere on this web site, teams of four students each during the two or three April time frame "hands on" sessions scanned a photograph, incorporated it into the local web files, and wrote a text web page with a few brief statements comparing and contrasting the photograph with an art work remotely available over the web via a hypertext link.

Student-Set Goals

A day prior to the second session (so they knew from the first session what was involved), students were alerted to the upcoming session and asked via a handout to set a goal that they would like to achieve with the help of their team.

Student Evaluation

After the session, students were asked to say "yes or no" as to whether or not they achieved their goals.

Responses

Here are the student responses to the above goals and evaluations.  In addition, we asked them what they learned and what more they would like to do.  By and large, the responses were positive though it is clear from some that four students per computer were too many and we were spread pretty thin when it came to giving computer advice, etc.
Goal: List one goal from handout that you would like to achieve. Eval: Did you achieve one of those goals? Learn: What did you learn? More: What more would you to learn?
I would like to go around and look at other team's things. Yes, we accomplished #5 (to include another art work) and put things about it too. We got to do other things. I learned how to SCAN. I'd like to learn how to make a file.
(Not Available) Yes, we typed all of our info. I learned how to scan a picture. I would like to be able to print [the picture of] the teacher's head. [This was one of the photographs that was available for scanning.]
I would like to complete my team's writing. Yes, we did because we worked to accomplish it. (Not Available) I don't have anything more I particularly want to learn
I would like to perhaps start a new picture after we finish the last one. No, because we didn't have time to finish it. We did answer the questions, however. (Not Available) In the next Art Awareness, I hope to finish the picture my group and I are working on and start a new picture and learn new things.
Goal: List one goal from handout that you would like to achieve. Eval: Did you achieve one of those goals? Learn: What did you learn? More: What more would you to learn?
I would like to scan another photograph and put it into my Team's work. Yes, we did get done. (Not Available) I want to learn how to use the computer for art. Besides that, I don't have any[thing I want to learn].
I would like to write something more about the differences between the art work and the photograph. Yes, because the art work that we had was different. We found the differences. (Not Available) I don't really have anything.
(Not Available) Yes, because we scanned in another picture in color. (Not Available) I would like to scan in another picture.
I would like to get the photograph scanned and included correctly. Yes, because Mr. Ritchie helped us. (Not Available) I don't have one.
Goal: List one goal from handout that you would like to achieve. Eval: Did you achieve one of those goals? Learn: What did you learn? More: What more would you to learn?
I would like to write more about the differences between the art work and the photograph. Yes, because I typed some more on what the differences between the portrait and the landscape [were]. (Not Available) My goal would be to scan another picture and write more differences.
I would like to learn why a photograph is a piece of art? Yes, because the computer showed me that pictures and a piece of art are similar because of the colors and the landforms. (Not Available) I want to learn the difference between a portrait and an animal picture.
I would like to help my team in every way possible. Yes, we did because we finished scanning our picture and we finished our writing. (Not Available) I would like to learn more about how to put pictures into the computer by scanning the picture. "But I am happy as a clam" - [referring to my asking them to tell me what else they would like to learn but--if they did not have anything else they wanted to learn and were simply "happy as a clam"-- they should just put that down.]
I would like to have my team do things together--not separate. Make sure everyone has a job. Yes, we did. We got our picture scanned onto the computer. (Not Available) I want to learn how the computer scans the photographs onto the hard drive and I want to learn how many bytes does each computer have here.
Goal: List one goal from handout that you would like to achieve. Eval: Did you achieve one of those goals? Learn: What did you learn? More: What more would you to learn?
I would like to participate and do as much work as the others. Yes, because I participated by doing the mouse. (Not Available) My goal would be to keep helping.
I would like to have our team work together. Yes, we did accomplish our goal by finishing the first picture and starting the second. (Not Available) I would like to finish the second picture and start a third picture. I would also like to show [one of the teacher's] the [highly magnified picture of] his head. [This was one of the photographs available for scanning.]
I would like to scan another photograph and put it into my team's work. Yes, we accomplished one of our goals. We accomplished [another student's] goal to have him participate as much as us. But we did not do the rest of our goals to scan another picture. I learned how to use a computer and scan a picture on the computer and the different types of pictures. I wish we could draw something.
I would like to get the photograph scanned and included correctly. Yes, we accomplished one of my goals because we scanned another picture. (Not Available) I want to learn how to work a computer better.
Goal: List one goal from handout that you would like to achieve. Eval: Did you achieve one of those goals? Learn: What did you learn? More: What more would you to learn?
I would like to scan another photograph and put it into my team's work. (Not Available) (Not Available) (Not Available)
I would like to scan another photograph because ours is all black and white. Yes. I learned how to scan a picture. The next thing we can finish the writing on our new picture.
I would like to write some more about the art and my scanned picture. Yes, I accomplished one of my goals and I also had a lot of fun and I also got to start a new picture and that was exciting. (Not Available) My goal would be to scan a picture and make up my own questions to answer.
I would like to go [through] things more better and not talk so much and I would like a little bit more help. Do something different. No, because no one would come and help us. No one wanted to help us. Everytime we said they just looked away from us! (Not Available) I want to learn how to scan some of the pictures and not sit there doing nothing. That is what I want to learn.
(Not Available) No, because almost the whole time we were down here we were playing with the pictures. We didn't know what to do and almost nobody helped us until the end. (Not Available) My goal would be to actually make something in Art Awareness.
