The Case of the U.S. Navy Adventure: A Novelization (Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley)
The Case of the U.S. Navy Adventure: A Novelization (Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley) by Deborah Perlberg
This book is about the case of the US Navy. The girls go on vacation. They find this case. There are initials for these three people. The people thought they saw a space ship land. Then the two girls get on the boat. They see their dad's friend with their dad. They tell their dad's friend about the space ship. It was really one of the navy's satellites. But it broke down so they had to bring it back into the water and land it so they could fix it.
I liked how they had to press all these buttons to get the space ship over. But it broke before they could get it to land on the ship. They just missed it and it landed in the water. I also liked when their brother Trent accidentally brought his game along (it's a laser game--like a game boy).  He didn't turn turn his game off.  It made all these noises. It interfered with the launch of the space ship when they were trying to get the satellite up. They couldn't get the space ship up.
I would recommend this book to a girl.

Genghis Khan - A Dog Star is Born by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat.
Genghis Khan doesn't want to be a star any more. He is going on vacation. They have a look-a-like contest and Fred's dog wins.

Fred takes his dog to Hollywood. They show him this big house. Genghis Khan gets his own room. It has a bed that is shaped like a bone. Fred's dog agrees to take over for Genghis Khan.

Then the servant brings in the mail bag. One of the letters is from somebody that says that they hate Genghis Khan. Fred reads it. They don't want him to be the star any more.

The scene shifts to where Fred's dog is standing in for Genghis Khan  and is making his first movie. He is supposed to run off into the woods because of this monster. He hides. They can't find him. Two weeks passes. They still can't find him.

There is this lady who has a cat. She is a helper on the movie set and lives in Hollywood. The lady thinks that the cat should be Genghis Khan. Fred finds a piece of a collar. It has all these holes in it--like holes made by a cat. When the lady leaves for the movie set, Fred has the police go into the lady's house. They find Genghis Khan (Fred's dog) who is being kept by the lady.

Fred's dog finishes up the movie as Genghis Khan and instead of staying there for one year he stays there for more years.

I liked when his friend hears that Genghis Khan is gone and she rushes to Hollywood. She is going to stay there until they find Genghis Khan because she is nice. I liked when in the movie that Genghis Khan was doing he was supposed to be scared of this monster and this lady held up this piece of baloney and that made him look up and then she threw it into the woods and that was what was supposed to make him go hide.
I would recommend this book. See related review in Books for the Ages 9 to 12 Set.

Sweet Valley Trick or Treat (Sweet Valley Kids, No. 12) Book Cover
Sweet Valley Trick or Treat (Sweet Valley Kids, No. 12) by Molly Mia Stewart, Ying-Hwa Hu (Illustrator), Francine Pascal
Two twins--Jessica and Elizabeth--are in school. They are in second grade. Their teacher asks the class what they are going to be for Halloween. Elizabeth is hoping that the teacher doesn't call on her because she doesn't know what she is going to be. They haven't found any costumes. She doesn't call on Elizabeth--she calls on Jessica--Jessica says that she doesn't know.

Then, when they get home, their mom surprises them with a box of costumes. They try some on. Finally, they discover a Princess one and a Witch one. They both like the Princess one. They have to decide who is going to be the Princess and who is going to be the Witch. Their mom says that they are both very nice costumes.

Later on, Elizabeth picks up her teddy bear and goes "Ah!" because there is a big black spider under where the teddy bear was. Their brother pops in and says "Hah Hah, you fell for it. It was just a fake fur spider." Elizabeth says, "Did not--I was just surprised."

Later after their brother leaves, Elizabeth says, "Hey, I've got an idea. Since we both have lost the same tooth and look the same and since our brother has been teasing us, let's give him a trick." They decide to plan a trick with the Princess costume to get him back for all the tricks he has done on them.

They do the trick and it works! Jessica says, "Hah, hah, we tricked you. There's popcorn inside--I'll race you in ..."

The end...

I liked how their brother tricked them and how they kept tricking him back. I liked when Jessica lost her tooth she wouldn't show it to Elizabeth. She kept hiding her mouth and talking through her hand.
I would recommend this book to a girl who likes tricking her brother.

Nate the Great and the Lost List Book Cover
Nate the Great and the Lost List by Marjorie Weinman  Sharmat
Nate the Great was on vacation but a boy stopped by and said he had a problem. Nate the Great said, "I can't do it right now--I am on vacation." Then, the boy said, "I went to the grocery store and I lost my list." Nate said, "Ok."

That is how the story begins. Even though Nate is on vacation, he decides to take the case. His efforts at finding the list lead him to Ramona who is having a "cat pancake party," to the dump where he looks through the garbage (Ugh...), and to trying to get a piece of paper away from Annie's dog Fang to see if it is the list.

Was Nate successful in finding the lost list? What do you think? You'll have to read the story to find out. We're not going to tell...

I liked the part of the story when Nate went over to Ramona's and he tried one of her cat pancakes but he spit it out. I liked the part of the story when they climbed up the big pile of trash and when they didn't find the list, they slid down the pile in a tub.
I would recommend this story to a person who likes mysteries. See related review in Books for the Ages 9 to 12 Set.
